CHAUVET on Discovery Channel

July 2010

NEW YORK, NY – CHAUVET® teamed up with the Discovery Channel for an episode of “Construction Intervention” to help turn a club that was in ruins into a swanky hot spot.

The show, which aired in April, featured New York construction extraordinaire, Charlie Frattini, who rescues businesses in danger of closing due to their construction woes. Frattini and his team of contractors and designers came to the aid of a father-and-son Staten Island duo, identifying themselves on the show by their first names, Joe Sr. and Joe Jr. The latter also performs as a disc jockey under the name of Jose Velez. The pair found themselves $200,000 in debt, after contractors left them stuck with a dangerously run-down nightclub. The venue, named Locale, was completely remodeled to give the father-son duo and all of Staten Island a nightclub they could be proud of.  In just four days, Frattini and his crew tore down entire walls, laid out new flooring, erected a stage and custom built a bar, a DJ booth and a V.I.P lounge.

When it came to lighting, the Velez’s expectations were modest. Joe Jr. envisioned just “four moving heads and four nice speakers providing some thumping music”, he said. But Frattini felt LED, multi-colored lighting was the way to go. CHAUVET® was asked to donate a lighting package to add an extra flair to the establishment. LED and accent lighting that can be controlled with music was set up throughout the club.

CHAUVET ® provided Locale with 10 fixtures: six COLORdash™ Batten LED wash lights, one DMX Mega Strobe™ III, one Hurricane™ 1300 fogger, one Vue™6.1 LED moonflower, and one Eclipse™ LED laser.

By the end of the episode, with all the renovations made and CHAUVET® fixtures in place, Joe Jr. said, “What they made is something beyond my vision […] creating an intimate and striking lighting atmosphere is not an easy task. With CHAUVET® lighting, and their amazing lighting products, I was able to conquer that challenge with my new venue.”

Locale has become a Staten Island hot spot, packing the house every weekend and Joe Jr. and Joe Sr. are no longer in danger of losing their home and are finally turning profit. “The bar, the lights, the colors, everything; I feel like I’m in downtown Manhattan and I feel so happy,” Joe Sr. said.
