CHAUVET DJ of the Month: DJ Ryan of Tah-Dah Productions

Posted on July 7, 2014 by webmaster

When Ryan Fabian volunteered to play the music for a friend’s wedding for free ten years  DSC_6246ago, he never could have dreamed that he could turn his love of music into a thriving Northern California-based DJ & special event business.  But that’s exactly what Fabian’s Tah-Dah Productions has become in just a few short years. Meet CHAUVET DJ‘s DJ of the Month, DJ Ryan.

Tell us about Tah-Dah Productions:
Tah-Dah Productions covers from the Bay area to the Oregon border.
We are based  out ofboth Chico and Ukiah Ca.  We’re only four years old.  Crazy how far we have come along ways in the past couple years. We’re more than just your average 1621779_465034433624368_1611876768_nwedding and event DJ service.  We offer cutting edge lighting and we are an FDA licensed laser production company. We can also help with the timeline planning details of any special event.

How did you get started Djing?
DSC_2723I have always been into music since I was a little kid. A little over ten years ago a good friend was getting married and asked me to DJ his wedding, since I was so into music and to help him out with the cost. So with some home stereo equipment, a rented microphone,  and a desktop computer I was able to put together a system to do my buddies wedding. During the course of the evening I noticed I was having more fun picking out the next track and keeping the dance floor full, then hanging out with my friends at the wedding. After doing a few more friends parties/ weddings(for free) over the next year, I quickly realized I had a gift for this DJ thing and I could actually make money doing something I really enjoyed. I spent the next couple years buying equipment when I could and working on my MC and DJ skills,  the rest is history…….I never would of imagined it would have  grown this fast and is still growing.

How has lighting helped your business?DSC_5170 (2)
Lighting has been a key to my success ever since I started Tah-Dah Productions. Lighting is something we use at every event from Proms/school dances, corporate events, weddings, community events,  you name it we light it up. We really try and use our lighting to help set the mood and tone for each event. With a combination of uplightng and dance floor lighting we have the tools to help bring our clients’ visions to life. Lighting is such a huge part of every event that I travel with my own lighting man, just to run my light show while I DJ. Lighting specialist Travis likes to mix it up and rarely duplicates a setup. Travis also has acquired his FDA variance license for our high powered laser shows. LED Uplighting has been the biggest game changer in the past couple years and is an easy add on for us. Once you show a client the before and after of any venue we have done uplighitng in they are sold. Oh and think about symmetry when you put up your lighting.  Try and keep things balanced it just looks better.

What advice would you give other Djs?
2014-05-03-094547-XLDont be afraid to get involved with your crowd and guests. Far too often DJ’s more or less hide behind their turntables and just play the music. The best piece of advice I could give is to get out from behind the table and interact with your crowd. The more involved you are with the crowd the more they will enjoy your music. The Cha Cha slide is the perfect example. Next time you play this song for a large group,  grab your wireless mic and go do the slide with the crowd they will eat it up I promise you.
