The light itself is Great, but beware of design changes
Before chauvet introduced the Scorpion Dual RGB (and prior to the new packaging), I purchased one of these lasers. For the price, you cannot go wrong. It is fairly bright, and creates cool patterns that are normally found on more expensive lasers. It is a little noisy, but once music is playing, you will not be able to hear it. However, a couple of days ago, I purchased another laser, one of which had the new packaging. And IT GOT REDESIGNED. It is half the size of the older model, the laser color is slightly different from the older model, there is no on off switch now, and the laser is not as bright as the older model. ALthough the beam is fatter, it is not as bright. You can still master slave the new model with the old, but to my eyes, they cheapened this laser from its predecessor. I returned the new one and exchanged it for an older model, as they still had one left at guitar center. THe laser is great for the price, but I just wish they did not cheapen the newer models like they did.
Response from CHAUVET DJ
Cade, we appreciate your time in reviewing Scorpion Dual. If you are experiencing issues with your unit, please contact [email protected] so we can figure out why your unit compelled this feedback. Based on your feedback, we just did the shootout to compare… The new Scorpion Dual is much brighter than previous Scorpion Dual. We also did not cheapen the product! Here are some examples of improvement upon the engineering: 1) Improved laser diode. 2) Based on feedback from Scorpion Dual, we used better quality internal components for Scorpion Dual RGB / new Scorpion Dual. 3) Improved cooling around the laser diode for longer life.
