CHAUVET Lighting Complements Panoramic View of Las Vegas

December 2008

Las Vegas — How do you light an 11,000 square foot nightclub that has floor-to-ceiling windows featuring spectacular views of the Las Vegas Strip and downtown from the 16th floor?  Very carefully, said a Production Product Manager at CHAUVET®.

The Florida-based company was selected to provide the lighting for the ONE Six Sky Lounge at Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel, which opened in mid December. CHAUVET’s Mike Graham worked with the manufacturer’s dealer PRG Vegas to bring the project in on time and under budget.

“The club offers the best view of the Vegas Strip that I have ever seen,” Graham said. “I wanted to make sure that we did not interfere with the clean look of the room and the view.”  Graham added that the project management came to the table with an open mind to lighting design, but with two caveats – they had a limited budget and wanted as much LED lighting as possible to minimize operational costs.

“Our greatest challenge was the timing,” said Dave Tennant, director of Technical Entertainment for the company. “We got the go ahead for the lighting and sound just three weeks prior to our opening date.”

The Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel had already purchased CHAUVET® lighting and turned to the manufacturer once again. “When Mike came in, he had a vision of what would work; we took that and worked around the audio we were installing,” Tennant said. “It worked out great.”

The Eastside Cannery Hotel & Casino architecture is themed from the industrial era, but the ONE SIX Sky Lounge features the panoramic views with an eclectic blend of classic motifs and modern furnishings to create an intimate and upscale setting. Warm and romantic red hues are offset by three large blue, cast glass columns that are lit from within. The chairs and chaises in the lounge area create an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment of the cozy setting.

Here, lighting could become a distraction. But Graham used small fixtures hidden in the coves around the seating area.

On the dance floor, he selected Q-Spot™ 300s, COLORdash™ PARs and Vue™ II fixtures in locations that did not obstruct slightlines. He also used six MiN™ Wash fixtures for down lights on the back side of the bar to add in some extra depth and dimension to the overall lighting package, he said.

The lounge offers a vibrant mix of music, familiar comfort food served tapas style and a variety of signature cocktails.

The ONE SIX Sky Lounge is overseen by Las Vegas nightlife industry veteran Frankie Anobile, noted for opening and operating some of the most successful clubs on and off the world-famous Strip.  Cannery Casino Resorts, LLC owns and operates the Cannery Casino & Hotel in North Las Vegas. The company owns and operates two other casino resorts in the Las Vegas area as well as the Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Pennsylvania.
